Burglary Buster

A Californian researcher has developed cutting-edge computer software that predicts where burglaries are most likely to occur, giving police a chance to stop organised crime.

The model was developed after researcher Robert Nash Parker collaborated with the Indio Police Department and researched on whether a computer model could predict crime by using census block group (smallest geographic unit the Census Bureau uses).

With the help of crime data and truancy records, Parker developed patterns of crime over time and space which helped him create the software. The model will help the cops to better anticipate hot spots of criminal activity and deploy officers accordingly.
