Earsight

Researchers from the Psychology department of the University of Bath have created a device for the blind that would enable them see the world through their ears.

The Voice Sensory Substitution device, as named by the scientists is a tool that helps blind people use sounds to build an image of what they hear. According to the scientists, the device is an effective alternative to the invasive treatment for blindness. Scientists, however, feel that the device, if used in a combination with some of the invasive techniques to restore sight can train the brain to see again.

A group of well–sighted participants used the device during a blindfold experiment and had cleared it without a proper training.
