Aerial, Terrestrial
A team of scientists from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology led by Ludovic Daler have created one-of-a kind drone aircraft that can also walk on land. The aircraft uses its wings to walk and crawl on land like a sea turtle.
The drone named Deployable Air Land Exploration Robot (DALER) after its creator has been designed to cross the limited flexibility and adaptability of robots used in search and rescue operations. DALER is energy efficient and has been designed to perform explorations on ground.
The aircraft is hoisted in the air by throwing it like a frisbee after which the wings lock in and get the drone airborne with a single propeller. DALER’s creators have associated its use for rescue operations and military including spying.
