Gay Genes

A study published in the journal, Archives of Sexual Behavior, reports that scientists from Ilia State University, Georgia have concluded that nearly half of all the people in the world including straight men and women carry gay genes. This implies that gay genes pass down despite the tendency of homosexuals to not have children.

This passing of genes over generations has in turn helped homosexuality exist among humans throughout history, even though gay men tend to have fewer descendants without gay genes. The research stated that sisters of gay men tend to have more children thus allowing homosexuality to exist in larger populations. Moreover, straight men may also carry genes predisposing them to being gay. This was concluded after researchers used a computational model to determine the influences of genes and heredity on homosexuality and its occurrence throughout human history.

Researchers thus came to the conclusion that aspects of heredity and the tendency of homosexual men to come from larger families is the main reason behind gay genes. Scientists however did not identify any specific genes and concluded that homosexuality must have a hereditary element. Researchers looked for why straight men have five times more children than gay men. Thereafter they took into account a previous research wherein gay men are more likely to come from larger families. “The trend of female family members of homosexual men to have more offspring can help explain the persistence of homosexuality, if we also consider that those males who have such genes are not always homosexuals,” said Dr Chaladze who undertook the research.
