Hologram Phone Under Development

Star Wars Phone

A technology that lets people talk to someone while simultaneously viewing his/her full hologram is being developed by Leia Display Systems, a company named after the heroine from the Star Wars movie. The phone being developed is inspired from a scene in the movie in which, the heroine appears as a hologram in front of the protagonist.

To make an image, the caller must sit in front of a specialized camera that would possess two lenses to create a single blended image. A hologram machine would then receive the image at the other end and beam it on to a water vapour screen in 3D. A microphone would add sound to the moving image and would provide an illusion that it is talking.

Its makers aim to have a working model of the phone by next year, which would be up on sale within the next five years.
