Alzheimer’s Detection

A 15-year-old Indian origin boy in United Kingdom has developed a new test that could make it possible to detect Alzheimer’s 10 years before its first symptoms start appearing and even stop its progression. Krtin Nithiyanandam is among the few participants who have made it to the Google science fair prize finals.

The anti-body known as ‘trojan horse’ has fluorescent particles attached to it which would be injected into the blood stream. The particles are capable of penetrating the brain and attach to the neurotoxic proteins which appear in the very first stages of the disease. The fluorescent particles attached to the anti-body will make things easier during brain scan.

Trojan horse is capable of breaking the blood-brain barrier in cases of neurodegenerative diseases like dementia. It can also handcuff the toxic proteins and restrict them from developing further which could stop Alzheimer’s from developing further.
