Eternal Youth
Researchers from Newcastle University, UK have identified for the first time that the activity of a key metabolic enzyme found in the batteries of human skin cells decline with age. This could lead to the development of powerful anti–ageing treatments.
Researchers discovered that the activity of mitochondrial complex II in the skin declines with old age. This discovery significantly enables the experts to move a step closer to develop anti–ageing treatments and cosmetic products to counter the decline in the enzyme’s activity levels.
The discovery may also pave way for scientists to understand the ageing process of different organs in the body, which would further lead to the development of several drugs for a number of age–related diseases.
