New Safer Spacesuit for Russia
Russian Spacesuit
A Russian company by the name Zvezda NPP which is a part of Technodinamika of Rostec State Corporation has developed lightweight spacesuit for astronauts. The spacesuit is equipped with climate control and unique safety systems that will help astronauts onboard the International Space Station (ISS).
The spacesuit has been developed with unique materials that extend its lifecycle. It will protect cosmonauts against aggressive setting such as open area and make them feel comfortable. The suits will allow astronauts to carry out minor repairs during spacewalk and in case of depressurisation the spacesuit can maintain the required pressure for as long as 30-50 minutes which is enough for astronauts to return to the space station. The currently available US version can maintain pressure for only 30 minutes.
The new spacesuit is 35-kg lighter than the US version and the climate control system provides thermal control on the basis of load, oxygen and carbon dioxide level. The spacesuit was put on display at the annual Innoprom International Industrial Exhibition held in Ekaterinburg, Russia. The spacesuits will be sent to the ISS this year.
