Global Touchscreen

Chris Harrison and Robert Xiao from Carnegie Mellon University have together invented a latest experimental technology system that allows the user to turn any surface into a touchscreen.

The system named WordKit reportedly pairs a depth–sensing camera lens with a projector lens to turn a surface into a touchscreen. The WordKit senses depth through a projector that is mounted to a ceiling or on a tripod.

Robert Xiao states that the technology enables the user to select a surface and ‘paint’ an interactive object like a button or sensor after which, the selected area displays the chosen interface that can be manipulated through gestures or touch.
