Halay

<p style="color:#dbdbdb ;padding:20px; border-left:5px solid #cecece;">Turkey, a bridge between two continents namely Europe and Asia, has been home to civilizations for about nine thousand years. Folk dancing dramatizes its rich cultural heritage. These have characteristics that are based on region and are generally engaged during weddings, gatherings, festivals, while sending their sons off to military services and during religious and national holidays. Different gender roles are demonstrated by these dances. Let us discuss about Halay, an important Turkish dance. Being the national dance of Turkey, it has originated from the empire of Assyrian. Hailing from Turkey’s eastern, south–eastern and Central Anatolia Region, Halay is accompanied by equally rich music and instruments. According to the Guiness World Records, the largest Halay Dance was performed by 904 dancers in Antalya, Turkey on 19th April, 2009.</p>

Dollu Kunitha

<p style="color:#dbdbdb ;padding:20px; border-left:5px solid #cecece;">A wide variety of classical and folk forms are featured by Carnatic music and dance. Its music is not just for entertainment but also for the spiritual betterment of the beholders and the performers. Most of the folk forms of Karnataka still continue in their primarily ritualistic mode. One such traditional example of dance dramas is the Dollu Kunitha. Originated from the Kuruba community in North Karnataka area, it is performed to commemorate an auspicious event and was later adopted by Deevaru, Uppaararu, Nayakaru and other sects of people. Dollu Kunitha is a popular drum dance of Karnataka providing both, a spectacular variety as well as the complexity of skills in the process of demonstration. Popularly known as ‘Gandu Kale’, Dollu Kunitha spread over the rural districts of Karnataka namely Bijapur, Belagam, Tumkur, Chikkamangalur and rural regions of Bangalore.
