By degrees, little by little, from time to time, a wise person should remove his own impurities as a smith removes the dross from silver.
May peace rule the universe; may peace rule in kingdoms and empires; in states and in the lands of the potentates; in the house of friends and may peace also rule in the house of enemies.
That which gives pleasure to one man gives pain to another. That sage who identifies himself with the imperishable Self and stands as a spectator of the mental modifications enjoys supreme peace and infinite bliss.
To have a body is to suffer. Those who understand this, detach themselves from all that exists and stop imagining or seeking anything. The sutras say, “To seek is to suffer. To seek nothing is bliss.” When you seek nothing, you’re on the Path.
